Wintertime Blues (or Greens)

It’s January. For all the gardeners in the Midwest, I feel your pain. When the air turns cold and the skies turn grey in Ohio, the joy of the past summer garden has faded, and hope for the next year is building up.

Rather than mope my winters away, a few years ago I started growing plants indoors. I started with a cayenne pepper plant that I successfully transported from outdoors to indoors. That plant grew for one season outdoors and gave off peppers twice more. (I call that a success).

Other than peppers, lettuce also grows pretty well in the indoor environment. On this small scale I can only grow enough for a few meals, but I achieve my goal of continuing the garden experience throughout the year. And that is just what I need.

Let’s grow something!
