I love gardening, or farming if you prefer that term. There are so many benefits including whole body exercising, being outdoors, working and collaborating with others and of course, just shooting the breeze. My favorite part though is the continuous learning.
Some of my fondest and earliest memories are of watching my dad till the soil with a look of determination on his face. Or seeing my mom smiling as she was pruning her fruit trees. I am sure she imagining making her pear-apple cobbler—something that should be on everyone’s food bucket list!
I learned from both my parents that if you want to have good results, you have to start with the right ingredients, put the work in and monitor/check because anything good and lasting takes time. That’s especially true with farming.
In the past 10 years I have gained more knowledge about growing vegetables, mainly from talking to my dad and reading but also from volunteering on farms. Sometimes I still feel like a beginner on this journey but I have made much progress in making the farm dream a reality. The learning curve is leaning in our favor.
Our next leap at CBW is selling online and at local farmer’s markets. To get ready we have started some seeds that will hopefully turn into sales at the Canton and Massillon markets this summer

Gardening at CBW is a year-round love affair–indoors and outdoors. As we experiment more with indoor and outdoor growing, we are grateful to our farming family, those in the real world and all the members of the various FaceBook groups who motivate us daily to keep up this important cultural work.

These collard greens, grown in a small greenhouse over a few months, will make their way to a plate very soon.
Let’s grow something!
