Don’t throw that away!

About ten years ago, I purchased a composting drum as well as an indoor container to hold the fruit, vegetable and grain meal preparation and dinner scraps. It has been an effective way to reduce our contributions to the waste in the local landfill.

Despite the fact that nobody wants to go outside to dump out the indoor container—even in winter, when there are no insects flying at our faces—the resulting compost is also beneficial to our urban farm.

Composting is a relatively inexpensive way to capture waste and amend our soil. We just have to be careful to ensure the local wildlife will not have buffet access to it. Try it yourself at home!

  1. Never thought about saving food waste this way. Thanks!
