We are of the opinion that every little bit helps. Every little bit of education and encouragement builds healthy, productive children (and adults). Every little bit of recycling, reusing and reducing consumption prevents a pile in the landfill. And, every little bit of healthy eating has a positive impact on our health.
ColorBlindWork’s motto is, “Let’s Grow Something.” We use it to encourage people to buy our vegetable plants (yes, please do!😁) and grow anywhere they choose but the phrase is actually a double entendre that also means, let’s grow healthy relationships, community links and better health and wellness—particularly in the Black/African-American community.
We focus on growing in our community, where every disease known to man seems to affect our families more than other communities. We say it a lot but it’s worth repeating here: our health problems are not intrinsic to ancestors of people kidnapped from Africa. It is not an insurmountable ethnic or racial condition. Rather, our health reflects a combination of high stress due to racism, low (or no) employment, higher exposure to chemicals from manufacturing (that are not present in other communities). conditions of housing that we may or may not own, and finally, less than ideal diets. That diet part—well that is the area where CBW wants to have a positive impact.
We want to get everyone in the community to grow something—herbs, vegetables and even flowers and house plants because every plant represents lower stress, better eating and if plants are grown indoors, cleaner air. We assist customers with setting up a home in-ground or raised garden. Some people are limited in their land space to grow. If that’s you, then we can get you set up growing in containers, too. Every little bit helps.

ColorBlindWork’s food plants are grown organically in a micro greenhouse. Everything is done on a small scale (mainly because this is not our day job yet!). The vegetables we grow to sell are fertilized with organic fertilizer and natural compost. Pests are managed with netting, fencing, black pepper, cayenne pepper, diatomaceous earth and a lot of angry-faced fist shaking, plucking and thumping anything munching, and fussing and cussing to handle any other successful invader.
We provide plants to a small number of customers who are new to this wonderful activity of gardening. If you are interested in getting started, give us a shout and one of us will phone you to chat about what you’ll need to get started. Take a step for better health. Every little bit helps.
Let’s grow something!
