I would have built a greenhouse

A few years ago, one of my relatives sent me a snapshot of some jewelry her significant other had purchased for her. She left the price tag visible so I knew the cost of it. My response to her was, “I would have built a nice greenhouse with that amount.” 🤣

In our family, we value a low-stress environment, ample free time, and enjoyment of nature. We do not value objects that can be placed in small boxes, locked in safes, or that have to be protected when out in public.

However, years ago I would buy silver earrings, rings, bracelets and necklaces. They didn’t cost as much as gold or jewelry made from other precious stones and metals, and today I only wear them when I need to accessorize—usually in business settings. Before we were married, my husband and I discussed the wastefulness of purchasing certain consumer goods (pre-marriage counseling is valuable). The engagement ring that he bought me over 25 years ago is still the only expensive jewelry that he has purchased for me. 💍 (Besides, if he spent the amount of money proportional to the actual love he has for me (and I for him), we would be broke!)

We encourage our family and friends to focus on health as wealth rather than material wealth. The image below summarizes that focus.
