Are you taking good care of your feet? No, I don’t mean going to nail salons and having paints and other chemicals sprayed on your feet. Or having them scraped by shared, but perhaps sanitized and sterilized, tools (yikes!). I mean, are you considering your feet in your diet, exercise and overall health?
A few years ago, I had an issue with swelling of my feet and ankles. It turned out that standing at my desk for eight to ten hours, along with jogging, skating or biking, was causing the swelling. Nowadays, I sit down more (sitting as I am typing this right now), and follow the doctor’s suggestions.
But it wasn’t just a weight-bearing issue causing the swelling. It was aggravated by salt intake, so I also had to pay attention to added salt from restaurant foods, and not shaking the salt shaker too much (but for necessary iodine I have to shake it a little!). Swelling problem…gone.
According to podiatrists, managing our diets helps with foot health. It turns out that the dietary recommendations for overall health are the same for foot health, such as:
- Avoid/limit fried and processed foods
- Avoid/limit red and processed meats
- Avoid/limit high sodium content (careful of added salt!)
- Avoid/limit Alcohol
Yep, all the stuff we think tastes good is causing damages throughout our bodies. Notice the recommendation is to avoid OR limit. Work on reducing until you can reduce the most harmful foods, like these junk food goodies.

When I was younger, I used to think that gravity would take all the food that I ate down to my feet. I guess I was right about that. 🥰
